Dear Jason,

Yes, one vote can make a difference, and it might be yours!

Your vote in the June and November elections can help elect an environmental champion in your district. In turn, that legislator could cast the deciding vote on a bill that protects Californians from the toxic effects of pollution, or keeps our state parks open, or protects our air, water, wildlife, and other precious natural resources. CLCV’s goal is to elect an environmental majority to the California legislature in 2012.

In CLCV’s 40 years of grassroots campaigns, members like you have made a difference countless times. Just this past year, you helped pass a law to protect babies from toxic BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups. The bill banning this dangerous chemical got 21 yes votes in the Senate, the bare minimum for passage! Your activism through CLCV is important every step of the way: electing environmental champions, urging lawmakers to pass strong laws, and scoring legislators’ performance. But electing lawmakers who will be true environmental champions is the first critical step.

2012 is an unprecedented year in California election history. Redrawn districts and new election laws give us an opportunity to elect environmental legislators in places they’ve never been elected before. We know the environment matters to voters all across California, but in a post-Citizens United era of unrestrained spending by the state’s biggest polluters, CLCV must play an increased role everywhere in the state.

How do we do it? We use our experience and expertise to identify the most viable candidates who will work to protect the environment, and we put our efforts where they will have the greatest effect.

Mark June 5th and November 6th on your calendar, and in the meantime watch for announcements of our endorsements for candidates and ballot measures.

When we all stand together to fight for the unique beauty of our state and the health of our friends, neighbors, and the larger community, it really does make a difference.

Thank you,

Andy Kelley
