Voters of District 59-B, I would like to represent you in the Minnesota State House of Representatives, and I am writing to ask for your support and vote in the September 12th D.F.L. primary election. Our district needs new leadership. The current representative has occupied our seat at the Capitol since 1972. Much has changed over the past 28 years, including our district's priorities. I have grown tired of seeing our representative disengaged from this district's most pressing needs, while using your time on frivolous and irrelevant tangents. Democrats lead best when they organize in the communities and stay attached to the people. Our party needs to revisit its roots. The number of new and returning Democrats is steadily declining. We must increase participation in the political process. The experience of returning voters can join with the energy of new voices. The year 2000 brings with it a number of new challenges, and for Democrats there can be no greater challenge that to rebuild our proud party. I am running for State Representative in District 59B to provide new leadership, to work on the issues that are the primary concerns of our district, and to build a stronger Democratic Party. I won't forget what's important. As a statewide community organizer and citizens lobbyist, I have worked with many of the major organizations that have supported your issues: the Minnesota Senior Federation, the Sierra Club, Minnesota Public Lobby, Clean Water Action Alliance, and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group. Chances are I have already been to your door several times in recent years, talking with you about health care, water quality, parks preservation, feedlot pollution, renewable energy, non-discrimination, and wage issues. I believe that everyone should benefit from a universal health care system, affordable and life cycle housing choices, and a protected environment. We have a lot to do in Minnesota on the issues that matter the most. Sixteen years have passed since you last had a choice in the September 12th primary election for a Democrat that will work for and with you. This September we can begin to lay down the foundation and once again take pride in a healthy, inclusive and strong D.F.L. It is time to move forward. It's your time! Home
