STATEWIDE LAW ENFORCEMENT GROUP ENDORSES BIELE FOR STATE REP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- August 23, 2000

The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association this week endorsed Brian T. Biele for State Representative from Southeast Minneapolis. The group is the state's largest law enforcement association, representing over 7,000 full-time peace officers, state troopers, and conservation officers throughout the state.

The 28 year old Biele is in a tight primary race with the 28 year incumbent Phyllis Kahn, who has represented Legislative District 59B since 1972. The Primary will be held September 12.

The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers endorsement is the latest in a series of endorsements Biele has won. Previously he gained the support Minnesota COACT and the endorsements of the Minnesota Teamsters, Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, and the Minneapolis Building and Construction Trades Council with its 33 locals. He also earned an Acceptable rating from the DFL Stonewall Caucus.

In accepting the endorsement Biele said "I'm honored that law enforcement not just in Minneapolis but statewide is supporting my campaign and the need for a change in representation in our district."

If elected Biele will be the youngest DFL legislator and one of only two Hispanics in the State Legislature.
